TONIN AND OLZER SEAL A 2-1 VICTORY OVER SASSUOLO

A fourth league victory for AC Milan Primavera, who asserted their dominance over the Emilians by overtaking them in the standings

Tonin & Olzer, seven days later: the two Rossoneri strikers gave AC Milan Primavera their second consecutive league victory and their fourth of the season, after defeating Sassuolo 2-1 at Vismara. Like last Saturday against SPAL, the two goals from Riccardo and Jack crown a deserved success, coming at the end of a second half played with quality and aggressiveness. Compared to the last outing, there were a few more minor flaws in defence, even if the Rossoneri never really risked conceding another after Manara's goal for the visitors.

A good response after the elimination from the Coppa Italia this week at the hands of Fiorentina, which brings Coach Giunti's team to the top section of the standings: a logical consequence of the good results (3 wins in 4 games) that have been obtained after the resumption of the Primavera 1 championship. But there is no time for the Rossoneri to rest on their laurels as on Tuesday afternoon, 14:30 CET, they will be back in action almost immediately: AC Milan, in fact, will be hosted by Bologna.

MATCH REPORT
After making several changes for the Coppa Italia showdown during the week, Coach Giunti named the same eleven that had started against SPAL last Saturday prior to the cup clash. The Rossoneri began today’s game positively and could have taken the lead after just three minutes, when Tonin fired narrowly off target after receiving the ball from Roback. AC Milan continued to put moves together and almost scored in the 21st minute after more good combination play from Roback and Tonin. With 31 minutes on the clock, Olzer’s excellent free kick was turned behind for a corner by Vitale, meaning the first half came to an end with the teams on level terms.

AC Milan broke the deadlock in the 55th minute through Riccardo Tonin: the Italian showed some great feet to get the better of two opponents and then left the goalkeeper with no chance with a fine low left-footed strike. Sassuolo responded well, coming close to equalising in the 58th minute through Manara, who was denied by an intervention from Stanga. Five minutes later, Jungdal produced some heroics to twice deny the away side from close range. The Diavolo then did some attacking of their own and doubled their advantage after 71 minutes, with Olzer volleying home Tonin’s ball in to make it 2-0. The match wasn’t over, however. Indeed, in the 75th minute, Sassuolo got back into the game through Manara, who took advantage of a mistake by Jungdal. The last real goalscoring chance fell the Rossoneri’s way as Roback fired over from close range after great work from captain Brambilla.
