POMIGLIANO FIGHT BACK TO DRAW 2-2 WITH THE ROSSONERE

A Mesjasz brace gave AC Milan the lead, but the Campane claw themselves back in the final stages

It was two points dropped for Coach Corti's AC Milan as they drew 2-2 away to bottom-placed Pomigliano, breaking their winning streak in the closing stages of the game. Gosia Mesjasz's brace - scored at the start of both halves – set them up to victory, but the side from Campania took full advantage of the few chances they created, fighting back to equalise through goals from Szymanowski and Rabot. The final score feels somewhat like a defeat as the Rossoneri were in total control of the match and never looked in danger.

The outcome at the Stadio Amerigo Liguori in Torre del Greco, the first match of the second half of the Relegation Round, therefore leaves a bitter taste in the mouth. The Rossonere have a consistent lead at the top of the group and their place there is not in question at the moment, but the match against Pomigliano represented a wonderful opportunity to show further signs of growth and strengthen morale. The focus now turns immediately onto next weekend’s fixture - on Sunday 5 May – where the Rossonere will welcome Como Women to the PUMA House of Football. Heads up, girls!

MATCH REPORT
The Rossonere started off strong and decisive. Inside four minutes, Dubcová picked up the ball following a save from Gavillet and hit the post after a deflection. From the next corner, taken by Rubio, Mesjasz headed into the far post and the ball dropped in under the top corner to make it 1-0. AC Milan didn’t let up and Ijeh nearly doubled their lead on two occasions, but her efforts were blocked from close range in the 8th minute and inaccurate in the 14th minute. Pomigliano got hold of the ball a little more in the central areas and pushed forward, but failed to give Babb any worries. The Rossonere controlled the pace of the game and remain on the front foot but without threatening too much. The last action of the half came from Guagni's left-footed shot (45'), but Gavillet was there to mop it up. 1-0 to us at half-time.

There were no changes made at the break, and the second half continued along the same lines as the first ended, with the second Rossonere goal eventually coming: this time, Cernoia’s corner found Mesjasz, who headed home for 2-0. The two-goal lead relaxed AC Milan, as Ijeh and Rubio’s efforts from distance went close in the 56th and 60th minute, respectively. In the 73rd minute, however, the hosts got a foot back into the game: Nambi laid the ball off for Szymanowski, who won the rebound off Swaby, and place the ball past Babb to make it 2-1. The Rossonere tried to put the game to bed, but in the 88th minute Rabot unleashed a powerful right-footed shot from long range that flew into the top corner. A real sucker punch at the death and the game ended 2-2.
