ROSSONERE HIT FOUR PAST COMO

A convincing away win for Coach Ganz's girls in their final match of the regular season

AC Milan comfortably beat Como on matchday 18 in Serie A to round off a perfect February that has seen the team record three wins in as many games. At the Stadio Ferruccio in Seregno, the Rossonere dominated and scored twice in each half, running out 4-0 winners. Piemonte bagged for the fourth consecutive match and Lipman put through her own net to leave Coach Ganz’s girls well in control at the break. AC Milan then killed off the game after the restart through Martina’s second and Valery Vigilucci’s finish. In the closing stages, young Finn Oona Sevenius made her debut. It was a solid and mature performance from the Rossonere, who controlled the game and didn’t afford any chances to their opponents.

On her 50th appearance for AC Milan in all competitions, Greta Adami produced a fantastic display in the middle of the park and came close to scoring on two occasions. Furthermore, Christy Grimshaw made it half a century of appearances in the Italian top flight. It’s another victory for AC Milan, then, who, perhaps mindful of what happened in the reverse fixture, remained focused throughout and picked up three important points ahead of the next stage of the campaign. The Rossonere have moved above Fiorentina to finish the regular season with 34 points and go into the Poule Scudetto (Scudetto playoffs), which will kick off on the weekend of 18-19 March, in excellent form. Before that, attentions will turn to the Coppa Italia: a first-leg semi-final showdown against Roma awaits at the PUMA House of Football on Sunday 5 March.

MATCH REPORT
Como made a bright start, but AC Milan took the lead with the first real chance of the game: Guagni spread the ball out for Bergamaschi, whose cross to the far post was converted by Piemonte’s left foot to make it 1-0. The advantage allowed Ganz’s girls to relax and really take control of proceedings. Adami came close with a strike from the edge of the area (15’), as did Piemonte from Thrige’s knockdown (21’). The Rossonere were making use of the flanks: Bergamaschi’s dangerous 28th-minute cross ended narrowly out of play, while nobody was able to get on the end of Adami’s cross-shot after 36 minutes. In first-half stoppage time, Lipman unluckily diverted the ball into her own net from Thrige’s free-kick, leaving AC Milan two to the good at the break.

Ganz’s side extended their lead at the start of the second half: Thrige sent another free-kick into the middle of the box and Piemonte headed home her second of the day (47’). AC Milan were in command and added a fourth in the 59th minute as Vigilucci rifled Bergamaschi’s ball past Beretta. The Rossonere managed their advantage with real maturity without pressing on the accelerator, preferring to keep possession and dictate the pace of a game that was already won. There were no more chances in the closing stages and the scoreline remained the same. A convincing victory in Seregno!

POST-MATCH THOUGHTS
“It’s a tough place to play and all the girls contributed,” said Coach Ganz after the game. “Now, we will prepare for the Scudetto playoffs and our Coppa Italia semi-final tie against Roma as best we can. We deservedly won today, and this is the right path to take as we move towards the closing stages of the season.”

"I'm really pleased to have made my 50th Serie A appearance with AC Milan and I'm even happier to have celebrated it with a win," added Christy Grimshaw. "We played really well and I hope to play more games in this shirt."
