The league leaders emerged victorious at the PUMA House of Football today, with Giugliano scoring two goals in seven minutes to condemn the Rossonere to defeat. Ganz’s girls failed to build on their away win over Fiorentina last week as Roma struck twice at the start of the second half and then saw the game out. A disciplined performance wasn’t enough for AC Milan to stop Roma, who had a lot of the play and took their chances well.
Ganz stuck with the 4-2-3-1 formation that had worked so effectively in Sesto Fiorentino and the team did all that they could to get back into it, showing plenty of heart and pride, but the Roma rearguard held firm. The relentless Christy Grimshaw was particularly impressive for AC Milan, always looking to make a contribution in both defence and attack. Next up for the team is an away match against Sassuolo at 14:30 CET on Saturday.

MATCH REPORT
As expected, Roma controlled possession as AC Milan aimed to strike on the counter. Spugna’s side tried from distance on more than one occasion but didn’t particularly threaten early on. The Rossonere gained in confidence and Bergamaschi found the net on the 22-minute mark following excellent combination play with Asllani, but it was ruled out for offside. At the other end, Giacinti got to the ball before Giuliani and sent it just off target (28’). AC Milan then came close twice within the space a couple of minutes: Mascarello saw her shot from the edge of the box blocked (37’) and Asllani was unable to covert Thrige’s cross with her head (39’). Roma got on top in the closing stages of the half: Giuliani denied Minami (40’) and Greggi narrowly missed with her left foot (45’).
After an even first half, Roma managed to score twice in quick succession after the restart. Giugliano bagged them both, heading home Haavi’s cross (55’) and firing into the net with her left foot from the middle of the box (62’). It was a big double blow for the Rossonere, who had come close to equalising through a Bergamaschi lob in between the two goals. AC Milan never gave up and displayed plenty of heart in the closing stages, but the visiting defence remained focused and managed to keep the Rossonere out.
