A 6-1 VICTORY FOR THE ROSSONERE

Coach Ganz's girls produce a dominant performance to beat Fiorentina on the road

AC Milan went up a few gears and deservedly came away with a win away to Fiorentina. Today’s match finished 6-1 to the Rossonere, who now sit on 16 points in the league, three behind the Viola. A really convincing result that came about after a dominant first half where Piemonte and Thomas both bagged braces. After the restart, the team controlled the match in excellent fashion and managed to extend their advantage thanks to an own goal and Michaela Dubcová’s finish.

Thrige and Mascarello with the assists, Piemonte and Thomas with the goals: it was a quartet that Fiorentina couldn’t handle in the first half. Following today’s brace, Thomas has now scored four times in her last two matches, with the Frenchwoman proving to be a real thorn in the Viola’s side. Both her and the team’s aim is to finish 2022 in the best way possible, which would mean entering 2023 with renewed energy and belief. In order to make this happen, it’ll be important to show the same amount of courage that was on display today in the next outing: on 4 December, Roma will be the visitors to the PUMA House of Football on matchday eleven in Serie A.

MATCH REPORT
AC Milan made a really bright start. Piemonte was the first to threaten, although her effort from a good position lacked power (3’). In the ninth minute, Asllani had a left-footed effort blocked. Two minutes later, the Rossonere opened the scoring: Thrige found Piemonte in the area, and the latter let fly with a right-footed strike that flew past Schroffenegger (11’). AC Milan continued to apply pressure and scored a second on the 19-minute mark: Thomas latched onto Mascarello’s cross and successfully picked out the corner with her shot. Fiorentina’s response was timid, with Giuliani in place to save Longo’s near-post attempt after half an hour. Between minutes 40 and 45, Thomas and Piemonte bagged again. First, the former headed home Mascarello’s corner; then, Martina converted Thrige’s cross. The first half finished with AC Milan four to the good.

Fiorentina began the second half well and reduced the arrears after just a few seconds: Longo broke free and found Severini, who did the rest. Having conceded, AC Milan regrouped defensively and limited the Viola’s attacking threat, relentlessly applying pressure as the hosts tried to put moves together. The Rossonere were content to try and hit their opponents on the break: in the 70th minute, Asllani led a counter-attack, but, after advancing up the pitch, the Swede’s shot from the edge of the box hit Bergamaschi. Parisi and Severini then both had attempts from distance, but Giuliani kept them out. With 75 minutes on the clock, AC Milan well and truly put the game to bed: Thomas escaped down the right before her cross was unluckily diverted into the net by Breitner. With the match drawing to a close, the Dubcová sisters combined for the Rossonere’s sixth: Michaela finished off Kamila’s ball from the left to make it 6-1. Full-time.
