A thumping victory for the increasingly confident current table toppers: at Formello, AC Milan Women recorded one of their biggest-ever wins, beating Lazio 8-1 and making it three from three ahead of the international break. The result was never in question, with the Rossonere scoring twice in the first eleven minutes and taking control to such an extent that Coach Ganz was able to rotate things in the second half. It was a game that saw Valentina Giacinti take centre stage: she scored four goals to move top of the goalscoring charts after three matchdays.
The Rossonere captain wasn’t the only one to shine, however: Lindsey Thomas got off the mark in the league with a brace, while Vero Boquete bagged for the second time in the current campaign. Meanwhile, Serena Cortesi netted her first official goal in the AC Milan shirt with a fantastic free kick. A total of eight goals for the Rossonere, who had previously only scored as many in a single match on one occasion: against Pink Sport in January 2019. But, given that they didn’t get on the scoresheet, it’s also worth mentioning the two assists registered by Adami and the one provided by Bergamaschi. It’s now time for the international break, with the Rossonere’s next fixture scheduled for 25 September, when they’ll take on Sassuolo in a big showdown at Vismara.

THE REPORT
Korenčiová lined up between the sticks for the first time this season and Thrige came in to replace Tucceri Cimini. The Rossonere started strongly and took the lead after five minutes, when Thomas scored her first goal of the campaign: Giacinti laid the ball off for Vero, who picked out Lindsey with a fine through ball, and the latter then displayed great composure to fire past Öhrström. AC Milan were well in control and doubled their advantage on the eleven-minute mark through Giacinti, who, after being found by Adami, fired into the corner with a precise right-footed strike. The Rossonere almost made it three when Thomas and Giacinti combined in the 13th minute, while Bergamaschi also threatened with 21 minutes on the clock. In the space of two minutes, Giacinti netted her second and third and AC Milan’s fourth: she finished off Thomas’ assist from the right after half an hour and then found the net from Bergamaschi’s ball two minutes later. The Rossonere No.7 came close to scoring a fifth for the Rossonere in the 41st minute, while Giacinti had a goal ruled out for offside on the stroke of half-time.
The hosts had a go at the start of the second half, with Korenčiová forced to intervene in the 52nd minute to deny Andersen. AC Milan responded vehemently, with Thomas and Giacinti scoring the fifth and sixth goals of the match after 53 and 56 minutes respectively. Indeed, the former struck from just over 15 yards out following another Vero pass, while Valentina directed Adami’s cross into the net for her fourth of the day. Lazio looked to pull one back, but the Rossonere made it seven with 67 minutes on the clock, when Vero rifled home following a favourable ricochet. In the closing stages, Miotto and Cortesi made their league debuts for AC Milan, with the latter scoring with a wonderful 85th-minute free kick following Martin’s consolation for the home side in the 78th minute. It’s now time for the international break, one which will see nine Rossonere head off to play for their respective countries: Bergamaschi, Giacinti and Giuliani (Italy); Longo (Italy U23); Thrige (Denmark); Árnadóttir (Iceland); Grimshaw (Scotland); Korenčiová (Slovakia); Jane (South Africa).
