As we await the in-person meeting, the Rossonere's new season in fact began today with the draw for the first qualifying round of the 2021/22 UEFA Women's Champions League. After finishing in second place in last season’s Women's Serie A and achieving a historic first European qualification, AC Milan's journey will begin against FC Zürich Frauen, who finished in second place last season, behind Servette.
The semi-final against the Swiss side is to be played on 18 August. The possible final, on 21 August, will be against either Hoffenheim (GER) or Valur (ISL).
The formula for the first round includes four straight-knockout mini-tournaments consisting of two semi-finals, a third-place playoff and a final. The winners in the final proceed to the second round, the final step - with home and away matches - to gain access to the 16-team group stage.
