GIACINTI WINS IT: FLORENTIA BEATEN 2-1

The captain bagged a brace for the Rossonere's eighth consecutive victory

After the win in Verona (1-0), the Rossonere were also smiling in San Gimignano. On matchday 12 of Serie A Femminile, AC Milan won 2-1 at the Stadio Santa Lucia thanks to a brace from Valentina Giacinti. Our captain scored either side of half time, while Anghileri had brought the hosts level. This was the eleventh win in twelve league games for Maurizio Ganz's side - their eighth in a row and first of the second half of the season. It was a brilliant performance from the Rossonere and the final score doesn't quite reflect their superiority on the pitch. AC Milan were stubborn, solid, never in trouble and lethal going forwards, though Korenčiová was forced into a spectacular save late on to maintain all three points. With this win, the Rossonere move to 33 points, three behind Juve, and maintain their grip on second place. Their lead over Sassuolo, who are also in contention for Champions League football, has now stretched to eight points. Before their next league fixture (v San Marino), AC Milan will be away to Sassuolo in the first leg of the Women's Coppa Italia on Sunday 31 January at 14:30 CET.

REPORT
It didn't take AC Milan long to get on the front foot. In the fourth minute, they took the lead through Giacinti, who latched onto a loose ball amidst the chaos in the box and turned it home. The Neroverdi fought hard and the Rossonere had a host of chances; Bergamaschi (15'), Vero (27') and Giacinti (28') all saw their efforts miss the target. Friedli denied Dowie from range (29') and Bergamaschi from a tight angle (31'). In the 39th minute, quite out of the blue, Florentia equalised. Anghileri went one-on-one with Korenčiová and kept her cool, slotting it into the corner. As the half drew to a close, AC Milan created more chances; Vero hit the post after a corner (44'), while Giactinti's header (44') and Dowie's effort (47') went wide.
At the start of the second half, AC Milan attacked with renewed ferocity; Grimshaw had a go into the 50th minute and Bergamaschi in the 53rd. Then, the away side had two clear chances; in the 54th minute, Giacinti, fed by Vero, had her effort saved by the Florentia 'keeper. One minute later, Dowie met Bergamaschi's cross but couldn't direct her effort on target. In the 65th minute, our captain showed her worth, scoring her and AC Milan's second. A lot of praise has to go to substitute Mauri, who did brilliantly to recover a wayward pass from Friedli and feed Valentia, who scored a fine goal. The Diavolo dominated late on, but the home side caused one more scared. Cantore looked like she'd scored a certain goal but Korenčiová produced a spectacular save to secure all three points. It ended 2-1 to the Rossonere, a deserved victory.
