A tough, clinical, strong and winning AC Milan side. The Rossonere emerged victorious away to Fiorentina today to move up to 24 points in the league following eight wins in nine matches. Spinelli’s early goal was enough to secure the victory, with Ganz’s girls remaining solid for the remaining 80 minutes of the match. AC Milan’s iron-clad defence barely gave anything away against a fearsome Viola attack, while the midfield stood firm and never allowed themselves to drop too deep. Particularly notable is the fact that the team came away with a victory without Giacinti or Dowie getting on the scoresheet for the first time since AC Milan v Florentia on 23 August. The Rossonere have thus built on their win against Roma, achieving another excellent result against a fellow challenger for a place in next season’s Women’s Champions League. Next Sunday, another big match is coming up for AC Milan, who will go into their home game against Sassuolo aiming to continue their winning run.

REPORT
The Rossonere took an early lead after just nine minutes: with Tucceri Cimini having delivered a dangerous free kick, Spinelli managed to get in behind the Viola defence and find the net with her right foot. The hosts looked to respond immediately and had two great chances to draw level: first, Sabatino escaped the attentions of Fusetti in the 17th minute but was unable to convert; then, Sabatino and Bonetti had attempts from Thøgersen’s cross, with Spinelli making a decisive intervention. Having survived with their lead intact, the Rossonere regained control and threatened through Valentina Giacinti, who was unable to score with a right-footed effort from outside the box.
The start of the second half saw Ganz’s side dominate proceedings. Linda Tucceri Cimini came close to doubling AC Milan’s advantage on two occasions, first from a free kick and then directly from a corner, but Ohrstrom was in place to save. Following this, Bergamaschi was unsuccessful with a right-footed strike from the edge of the area. Following a great save by the outrushing Korenciova to deny Sabatino with 67 minutes on the clock, Bergamaschi was once again involved, with Tortelli making a crucial last-minute intervention to prevent her from getting a shot away. In the 82nd minute, there was a huge chance for Giacinti, who received the ball from Mauri, broke away from Anrth but ended up shooting weakly into Ohrstrom’s arms. Grimshaw came inches away from scoring late on, but the Rossonere didn’t need another goal: Ganz’s girls saw the game out to record their eighth win in nine matches.
