AC MILAN V LAZIO: FUN FACTS

The main statistics ahead of matchday 34 in Serie A

The Rossoneri's Serie A season has reached an important crossroad as Maurizio Sarri's Lazio come to town, with vital points up for grabs in the fight for a place in next season's Champions League. As we build-up to kick-off, here are some stats and interesting facts about the fixture with the Biancoceleste:

SAN SIRO FACTOR
In the the last 32 league games at San Siro against the Bianconcelesti, AC Milan have only lost once: 2-1 on 3 November 2019. The Rossoneri have won five out of the last six clashes at home to Lazio and, after the 2-0 win on 12 September 2021 (Leão and Ibra), a clean sheet would mean two consecutive home Serie A games without conceding against them for the first time since 2001. If the 4-0 win in the Coppa Italia on 9 February 2022 is added, the aggregate score from the last three games in Milan between the two sides is 9-2 for AC Milan.

CURRENT FORM
AC Milan have drawn three of their last four Serie A home fixtures, which is as many as in their previous 19 (14W, 2L). They haven't drawn three league games in succession since September 2018 (against Cagliari, Atalanta and Empoli on that occasion). At the same time, though, the Rossoneri are unbeaten since 18 March in all competitions and have only let in four goals in their last eight games - never more than one goal - keeping the back door shut four times. Instead, Lazio have changed face in the last few months, thanks to earning 25 points out of a possible 33 in Serie A (8W, 1D, 2L), more than any other side in the same period. On the road, Sarri' rearguard is one of the best in Europe's top-five leagues with eleven clean sheets in 16 matches.

BUILD-UP PLAY AND FINISHING
On show at San Siro will be two teams who like to be on the front foot: AC Milan have created the most number of clear-cut goal opportunities in the league this season (91), while Lazio have the highest percentage of goals scored from chances created (58%). Backing up Sarri's side's clinical nature, the Biancocelesti have both the best finishing percentage (14%) and the highest percentage of shots on target (51%) in this year's Serie A. So, Pioli's defence will have to be on guarda, although AC Milan have scored the most number of goals from counter-attacks (seven), as well as making the most number of attacks going forward (81).

MAY: THE MONTH  OF AC MILAN AND LEÃO
In Stefano Pioli's reign as Head Coach, AC Milan have won eight out of ten league games played in the fifth month of the year (two draws), with eight clean sheets. For his part, Rafael Leão has been involved in seven goals in nine Serie A matches he has taken part in in May (2 goals and five assists): in no other month of the calendar year has he made more goalscoring contributions (5 assists also in October). The Portuguese player will be hoping to end the season in style statistically speaking: he has been involved in 19 goals (12 goals and seven assists) in this season's campaign, already equalling last year's Serie A record. In sight is the number 20, which would be the first time in his career in Serie A.
