The Rossoneri are set to take to the pitch to play a highly anticipated Derby showdown. At stake in Inter v AC Milan is a place in the Coppa Italia semi-finals. After their league win in October, the Diavolo are looking to make it two wins from two against their cross-city rivals and put their defeat to Atalanta firmly behind them. Ahead of tonight’s 20:45 CET kick-off, here are the facts and figures you need to know.

PREVIOUS ENCOUNTERS

1- Inter and AC Milan will be meeting in the Coppa Italia for the 25th time, with the Rossoneri’s record against the Nerazzurri in the competition reading as follows: ten wins, seven draws and seven defeats. The last five encounters between the two teams in the Coppa Italia all took place at the quarter-final stage: the Diavolo progressed in 1998 (a 5-1 aggregate win) and 2017, while Inter emerged victorious in the two-legged tie in 2000.

2- After their 2-1 Serie A win in October, AC Milan could win two successive matches against Inter in all competitions for the first time since 2011 (when they beat the Nerazzurri in the Supercoppa Italiana and the league).

STATE OF PLAY

3- AC Milan have reached the Coppa Italia semi-finals in each of the last three editions of the tournament. The Rossoneri haven’t enjoyed a longer streak than this since the four-year period lasting from 2000/01 until 2003/04.

4- AC Milan, on the back of three draws, have never drawn four games in a row in their history in the Coppa Italia.

GENERAL STATISTICS

5- AC Milan have scored the most goals in the opening half an hour of matches during the current Serie A season (15).

6- Inter have scored eight goals from corners during the 2020/21 Serie A campaign, more than any other side. AC Milan, meanwhile, have found the net 16 times from dead-ball situations, with no team having done better in this regard.  

PLAYER FOCUS

7- Inter are the team that Zlatan Ibrahimović has had the most goalscoring success against in all competitions during his AC Milan career: the Swede has found the net seven times in six matches against the Nerazzurri.

8- Soualiho Meïte has been involved in two goals (a goal and an assist) in three Serie A matches against Inter at San Siro. He scored for the first time in the Italian top flight in August 2018 as the Nerazzurri and Torino played out a 2-2 draw.

9- Alessio Romagnoli scored his first AC Milan goal in Serie A during the Derby showdown in April 2017. His 83rd-minute finish ignited a comeback that day, with the Rossoneri coming from two behind to secure a 2-2 draw.

10- Taking into account the league and cup competitions, Franck Kessie has scored six goals so far this campaign. The Ivorian could equal is goalscoring record for a single season in all competitions: seven, which he achieved in 2018/19 with AC Milan and in 2016/17 with Atalanta.
