SERIE A 2022/23: THE BIG MATCHES

Inter, Juventus, Napoli, Atalanta, Roma and Lazio: here's when we face our rivals

This year's schedule, interrupted by the long winter break, has brought up many big games to be played in short succession.

The second game of the season will see AC Milan look to extend a run of positive results against Gasperini's Atalanta, that started off in the 2-0 win in May 2021 to book the Rossoneri's return to the Champions League. The return game is pencilled in for the end of February.

Shortly after, it is the derby. The first game is on matchday five, after a midweek game away at Sassuolo, and and Inter host Cremonese at San Siro. The same games will precede the reverse fixture, which is set to be played on matchday 21. AC Milan are unbeaten in the last six derbies played on matchday five, with four wins and two draws; the last time decided by a Ronaldinho header on 28 September 2008. The first derby game will also prepare the team for their opening UEFA Champions League campaign, which will be played on either 6 or 7 September.

Two weeks later, the San Siro will welcome Spalletti's Napoli. It's been a while since the home fans have seen a win on home soil against the Partenopei in Serie A: 14 December 2014, to be precise, in a 2-0 win with goals by Ménez and Bonaventura. The visit to Stadio Diego Armando Maradona is scheduled for early April on matchday 28.

On matchday nine comes AC Milan v Juventus. After two draws last season, the Rossoneri, with a raucous home crowd behind them, will be looking to get back to winning ways against Allegri's side. The away game is to be the penultimate one of the season, at the end of May, which could well be decisive for both teams' season objectives. The last match played at the Juventus Stadium in the month of May dates back to 2021, in a great 3-0 win for the Diavolo.

After the World Cup has finished, it will be the turn of both Roman sides. The calendar has drawn out the same pattern of fixtures for both the home and away games against the Giallorossi and Blucelesti. First up is Roma and then Lazio, with Lecce (andata) and Cremonese (ritorno) wedged in-between.

These are the Rossoneri's 2022/23 Serie A standout games:
