Champions AC Milan will kick off the 2022/23 Serie A season at home against Udinese at San Siro. The two meetings with the Friulani last season both ended in the same score draw: 1-1 at the Dacia Arena, with Zlatan Ibrahimović netting, and 1-1 in the return home game, with Rafael Leão giving the home side the lead.
The Rossoneri once again find themselves back on home turf on the opening day of the season, after last year's visit to Genova to face Sampdoria. The last time a home game started off a new season at San Siro was on 21 September 2020, with a brace from Zlatan Ibrahimović sinking Bologna 2-0.
Inter and Lecce will face each other first up, just as they did in the 2019/20 season, which was the Salentini's last outing in the division. The Nerazzurri will play last season's Serie B champions away from home at Stadio Via del Mare. From the other promoted teams, Cremonese, who return to the top flight after 26 years, meet Fiorentina at Stadio Artemio Franchi, whilst first-ever Serie A participants Monza host Torino at the U-Power stadium.
For the two Roman sides, it's a home start at Stadio Olimpico for Lazio, who host Bologna, whereas AS Roma travel to Salernitana's Stadio Arechi. Juventus will welcome Alessio Dionisi's Sassuolo, while Napoli will start off in Verona at the Bentegodi against Hellas, led by new Head Coach Gabriele Cioffi. La Spezia will try to use home advantage in getting maximum points against Paolo Zanetti's new Empoli. And finally, at Stadio Luigi Ferraris in Genova, Sampdoria, all alone this year without city rivals Genoa, will take on Atalanta, who after five consecutive seasons will have no European commitments to focus on.
