MILAN FUTURO NARROWLY BEATEN BY RIMINI

Cernigoi's finish decides the clash on matchday 5 in Serie C

Milan Futuro suffered another setback this evening as Rimini ran out narrow winners on matchday 5 in Serie C. It finished 1-0 at the Stadio Romeo Neri, with Cernigoi scoring the winner just before the hour mark. In doing so, he made the most of one of the few chances the hosts had. The Rossoneri, meanwhile, were the more dangerous side over the course of the 90 minutes but failed to capitalise on the opportunities they created. Coach Bonera’s side undoubtedly deserved a better result than this bitter defeat.

The match was generally a tight affair, but Milan Futuro managed possession better and looked organised out on the grass, but Rimini, the more experienced outfit, ultimately emerged victorious. The Rossoneri’s goal drought from open play continues after a game where the team came close on several occasions, most notably through Liberali, who was only thwarted by the bar. Nevertheless, the Diavolo displayed a desire to turn their form around. Milan Futuro’s next fixture - against SPAL - is just around the corner, another game that will provide an opportunity to come away with a win for the first time this season. That match is scheduled for 18:30 CEST on Thursday 26 September.

MATCH REPORT
With the two sides looking to figure each another out early on, Milan Futuro had the first chance of the match in the seventh minute: Colombi produced a fine save to keep out a Minotti header from the middle of the box, immediately after which Zeroli fired off target from distance. On the 15-minute mark, Cuenca let fly with a powerful strike from distance, but Colombi made another stop. In the 34th minute, Nava tipped over a free-kick taken by Fiorini. Then, from the resulting corner, a Gorelli header lacked the power to find the net. In the closing stages of the first half, Traorè set up Camarda to score, but the Ivorian was flagged offside (38’). Two minutes later, Cernigoi tested Nava with a left-footed effort. 0-0 at the break.

The Rossoneri made the better start to the second half, with the opposition defence clearing a dangerous Traorè cross away from the six-yard box. In the 54th minute, an attempt by Parigi was deflected behind for a corner by Coubis. The hosts then opened the scoring on the 58-minute mark: Cernigoi fired home a loose ball in the box after a shot by Fiorini. Milan Futuro went on the hunt for an equaliser. With 63 minutes on the clock, Traorè found Cuenca, whose left-footed strike went narrowly wide. Liberali then had two chances to equalise: after volleying off target from a tight angle in the 69th minute, the No.10 let fly from the edge of the box and saw his right-footed strike come off the bar (72’). The Rossoneri couldn’t find a way through: it finished 1-0.
