KJÆR AND THIAW START, GIROUD SCORES FOR FRANCE

Theo Hernández also in action with Les Bleus, Malick makes his full international debut

Olivier Giroud kept up his goalscoring form and got on the scoresheet in international football. The Rossoneri's striker opened the scoring with a deft header as France beat Gibraltar 3-0 in EURO 2024 qualifying. In the same game, which saw Les Bleus claim top spot in Group B, Theo Hérnandez played and put in his usual lively performance down the flank; Maignan was not involved. Pierre Kalulu also played for France, though for the Under-21s; he started at right back in their 1-0 win over Mexico in a friendly.

Malick Thiaw and Simon Kjær also played yesterday, Friday 16 June. The former made his debut for Germany: he put in a convincing performance over 87 minutes at the heart of Hansi Flick's defence in a friendly against Poland. The Poles ran out 1-0 winners but young Malick starred, shutting down the energy of the hosts' forwards. Simon, meanwhile, captained Denmark to a 1-0 win over Northern Ireland to go into first in Group H of EURO 2024 qualifying.
