FRANCE BEATEN ON PENALTIES, ARGENTINA WORLD CHAMPIONS

Les Bleus took the final beyond extra time but lost in the shoot-out, Theo and Giroud played

It was a truly incredible World Cup final at the Lusail Stadium. France and Argentina went toe-to-toe in an epic clash, which ended 2-2 after 90 minutes and 3-3 after extra time. Les Bleus displayed great courage to twice come from behind to level the game and even missed two late chances to win it. But it did end up going to a penalty shoot-out...

Messi and Co were ice-cold from the spot and converted all of their penalties, while misses from Coman and Tchouaméni proved costly for the French. Theo Hernández and Olivier Giroud both started the game. The left-back played for 71 minutes and combined well with Mbappé, who scored a historic hattrick. Giroud, however, who it must be said was not fully fit, came off midway through the first half.
