The last few matches have been played, and the first international break of the season is now over. All the Rossoneri internationals will now return to base to prepare for the Derby.
In the Nations League, Roberto Mancini’s Italy drew for the second successive match. Pellegrini’s goal to open the scoring wasn’t enough for the Azzurri, with van de Beek equalising for the Netherlands to secure a 1-1 draw for the away side. Gigio Donnarumma couldn’t do anything about the goal and was his usual solid self between the sticks throughout the 90 minutes. The Azzurri now have two matches left to try to regain top spot in Group A1.
Meanwhile, in the same group, Rade Krunić played 74 minutes in Bosnia’s 3-0 defeat to Poland in Wroclaw (a Lewandowski brace and a goal from Linetty). In Group A2, Kjær’s Denmark put in a stubborn performance to beat England 1-0 in London thanks to Eriksen’s penalty. The Danes, who now sit in second place, were led throughout by Simon, the captain of his country, who celebrated his 100th appearance for his National Team in style. Alexis Saelemaekers wasn’t involved in Iceland v Belgium: the Red Devils won 2-1 in Reykjavík (a Lukaku brace) and sit in first place in the standings.
One player who enjoyed an impressive evening was Hakan Çalhanoğlu, who starred in Turkey v Serbia in Group B3 in the Nations League. With the Turks 2-0 down in Istanbul, Çalha got them back into the game with a right-footed strike from inside the box and then provided an assist for his country’s equaliser. Following the 2-2 draw, Turkey remain in third place. In Group B1, Tătărușanu played 90 minutes as Romania fell to a 1-0 defeat to Austria, whose goal was scored by Schopf with 75 minutes on the clock. In the same group, Jens Petter Hauge was selected as a substitute in Norway 1-0 Northern Ireland. Norway sit joint-top on nine points, while Romania sit third with four.
