With Tuesday’s matches now over, the international break is about to conclude. Yesterday evening, six Rossoneri players took to the pitch for their respective National Teams. One of these was Ismaël Bennacer, who scored in Algeria’s 2-2 friendly draw against Mexico in The Hague. Bennacer, who played the full 90 minutes, made it 1-1 on the stroke of half-time with a fantastic left-footed strike from the edge of the box, leaving Cota, the opposition goalkeeper, with no chance. Kessie’s Ivory Coast, meanwhile, fell to a 1-0 friendly defeat to Japan, who scored through Ueda in injury time. Franck remained on the pitch throughout.
There were also Rossoneri players involved in Under-21 fixtures. In Euro 2021 qualifying, Italy beat Ireland 2-0 in Pisa thanks to goals from Sottil and Cutrone. Sandro Tonali played 90 minutes and celebrated the victory with the following words: “After some very difficult days, we were a real group, a family. ITALY.” It was a real show of strength from the Azzurrini, especially given that it was the U20 team who went up against the Irish due to the various COVID-19 cases in the U21 camp. Italy have now gone top of Group 1, level on points with Ireland but having played a game less. Meanwhile, Leão and Dalot’s Portugal defeated Gibraltar 3-0 in Group 7: Rafa was named on the bench, while Diogo started the European U21 Championship qualifying match before being substituted at half-time.
