TIME MACHINE: PAZZINI IN AC MILAN v BOLOGNA

Giampaolo runs riot again against the Rossoblù and decides the match at the San Siro

From 21 August to 27 January, the match at Dall'Ara against Bologna marked the beginning of the season for the Rossoneri, and the one at San Siro will close the Rossoneri's first month of 2024. Upon approaching the home match on Matchday 22 of the Serie A TIM, let's revisit a previous match on 20 January 2013, decided by Giampaolo Pazzini.

The player of the day is the Tuscan forward born in 1984, a native of Pescia, who arrived at AC Milan in the summer of 2012 after a season and a half with Inter. His first Rossoneri highlights came against Bologna, thanks to a hat-trick scored at Dall'Ara in his second overall appearance with the Rossoneri. These were the first goals of a season scored by "Pazzo" who ended the season with a total of 16 goals, 15 of which were in the Serie A. An impactful contribution that would help the team secure third place at the end of the season, the last available slot for the next season's Champions League. Among Pazzini's 16 goals that season, five came against Bologna: already mentioning his hat-trick in the first leg, which he repeated with a brace in January.

The calendar marked 20 January 2013, Matchday 21, and the "Pazzo" was coming off three goals and one assist in the previous four matches. Bologna, coached by Stefano Pioli, arrived at San Siro, and the Rossoneri number 11 unleashed himself just like in the first leg: in the first hour of play, the visiting goalkeeper, Agliardi, excelled on several occasions, especially against El Shaarawy and Giampaolo himself. However, in the 65', came the opening goal: a cross from Abate, Pazzini shields the ball from Antonsson, turns, and beats Agliardi with a deflected shot that becomes unstoppable. In the 80', the magic of 2-0 happened: a flying hook on Boateng's stretched cross, a sombrero over Portanova, and a right-footed shot that nestles into the far post. Open applause from the audience. AC Milan's victory will also withstand a Mexes' own goal in the final moments, securing a 2-1 final score.
