Fully committed. Diego Sia could be called one of the Ignazio Abate faithful, someone that the Coach can always count on. Striker or second striker, left or right winger, "Diegol" delivers in any position. Performant, reliable, ready to make sacrifices and work to implement the ideas that our Primavera coach seeks to impress. Their relationship started a long time ago, with the shared experience in the Under-16s and the final battle for the Scudetto lost in Ascoli against Roma in July 2022 that bound them together.
His history with AC Milan runs even deeper since Diego, born in Parabiago, became part of the Rossoneri Youth Sector as a tiny child, progressing through the ranks and sometimes even jumping ahead. Technical and tenacious, he has the "killer instinct" of a striker that allows him to be in the right place at the right time. Like with the winning goal in the 3-2 Youth League victory over PSG or against Atalanta last season (another 3-2 winner).
Born in 2006, he entered the Under 19 side in November 2022, jumping up from the Under 17s with whom he started the season (already having scored 13 goals in 11 appearances). It took no time for him to settle in despite being two years younger than the group, instead, his impact was explosive: 26 appearances considering all competitions (league, Coppa Italia, and Youth League) and 8 goals. Performing just as well this season, he started as a central striker and has continued by covering every position in attack: 27 appearances, 8 goals, and an incredibly consistent output.
With only a few days to go until the away game against Cagliari who have a strong desire to get back into the playoff spots, Diego gave an exclusive interview about his relationship with Coach Abate, his performance, and the potential this season: "We're working on ourselves to try and get back some spirit; we need to improve in front of goal. I'm satisifed with my performances, even if I can do better in finishing off chances. The league campaign is moving into an important stage now. It'll be a tough game at Cagliari, but we're relaxed".
Kicking off at 11:00 CET on Sunday in Asseminello once again will be one of the cornerstones of this squad, ready and hungry for a win that hasn't come since the Frosinone 0-2 AC Milan on 6 January. Needless to say, it was Diego Sia who opened the scoring in that game.
