WOMEN'S SIDE, TOWARDS 2023

New year just around the corner: room for growth and midseason tips for Ganz's Rossonere

In this first half of the season with two halves, AC Milan still managed to consolidate their position among the top five in the table, a placement that allows access to the so-called "Poule Scudetto." The new format of the Women's Serie A kicked off this year and will involve all 10 teams participating in the competition in an unpredictable season finale. Sixth place, which would mean "Poule Retrocessione" is a full 9 points away, and for the Rossonere it is time to look ahead with confidence.

What Ganz's group has lacked so far is consistency in results. In fact, the Rossonere have lost out on important wins, including the 4-3 win against Juventus and 6-1 win at home to Fiorentina, with unexpected losses and draws. The six goals inflicted on the Viola - third in the standings - on the tenth matchday showed how the team possesses enormous potential, useen for long stretches of the season. The victory against Fiorentina was undoubtedly the best performance of this first part of the season.

Among the positive notes of this first part of the season is the attack: 25 Rossonere goals in the 12 league games, two more than the leaders Roma. The Rossonere trio composed of Kosovare Asllani, Lindsey Thomas and Martina Piemonte have sealed 14 of AC Milan's 25 goals in this Serie A. The Swedish striker, in particular, has shown that she has not needed any period of adaptation since her arrival in the summer, scoring on her debut and reaching 7 goals with the 1-0 win over Sassuolo in the last game. Highlighting these numbers is a record: AC Milan are the team with the most goals scored from set pieces in the first half of this league (8).

Even in the defensive department, there is no shortage of positive notes. Another of the new summer faces has taken lead and trust from all the teammates: Małgorzata Mesjasz. The Polish midfielder has proved to be a prominent element in Coach Ganz's set-up, and has in fact taken part in all matches, also scoring two goals. In addition, Gosia is AC Milan's outfield player to have recovered the most balls (88) and also scored in the 2-0 win over Ternana, the only Coppa Italia match played so far by the Rossonere. In January, there is the restart, with goals to chase from the Coppa Italia - qualification to the Quarter-finals is up for grabs - and Serie A, in search of consistency.
