Aster Vranckx is the latest addition to the Rossoneri's list of summer signings. Born on 4 October 2002 in Erps-Kwerps, halfway between Brussels and Leuven, the young midfielder comes to AC Milan from Wolfsburg. The Germans bought him in January 2021 from Belgian side Mechelen (38 appearances and five goals in the Jupiler Pro League), with whom he had completed the latter stages of his youth career and made his first-team debut at the age of 16 in August 2019.
He played just one season in the Bundesliga and between the league and the Champions League he made 28 appearances, scoring 2 goals. Versatility is one of the founding characteristics of this player, who knows how to navigate any kind of opposition: playing as various types of 'midfielder'. With Vranckx there are several variables, because with Wolfsburg he has been deployed in a two and three-man midfield, but also as a forward, in behind the striker and out wide in a 4-4-2, both on the right and on the left.
His young age means that he is still yet to explore the full extent of his talents. Physically he is gifted (1.83 cm for 78 kg), difficult to push off the ball, and possesses an excellent basic technique, which allows him to command the play, evade the opponent's pressing and take on opponents by himself.
Aster still has much untapped potential, but he is an impressive talent: he has been in the Belgian national team's youth ranks since the Under-15s and is now a starter in the Under-21s, of which he was captain in their last match in June, against Scotland for the European Championship Qualifiers.
