Like a fine wine. The years go by, but Olivier Giroud remains a truly key figure. On matchday 23 in Serie A, the Rossoneri No.9 both scored and provided an assist away to Frosinone. The Frenchman now has 19 goal contributions to his name this top-flight campaign - eleven goals and eight assists - which is more than he achieved in 2022/23 (18).
Fantastic numbers from a true champion, who was AC Milan’s standout performer at the Stadio Stirpe. Indeed, following the Diavolo’s third consecutive away win, the Rossoneri fans had their say on the AC Milan Official App and voted him as the match MVP ahead of Luka Jović and Matteo Gabbia, the other two goalscorers yesterday evening.
We’re only at the start of February, but Giroud’s stats are outstanding. In 2023/24, only Kane has scored more headers than Oli across the top five European divisions, while the Frenchman is also one of only four players (Salah, Watkins and Sanè are the other three) to have bagged at least eight goals and provided at least eight assists this campaign. Furthermore, after AC Milan’s victory over Frosinone, Giroud tops the Serie A assist charts.
It was yet another complete performance from Oli, who displayed a real spirit of sacrifice and was heavily involved in the Rossoneri’s build-up play, as proven by the fact he created three chances. He doesn’t just have excellent numbers, he is also a leader, an example, a truly selfless player. These attributes are often found in teams that never give up, and Giroud most certainly embodies them. Fantastique, Monsieur Olivier!
