Mike Maignan was voted by the Rossoneri fans, via the AC Milan Official App, as the best player on the pitch in the 0-0 draw against Sassuolo, in a true landslide. It's hard not to disagree with them after the French stopper's penalty save from Berardi gave Coach Pioli's side a 14th clean sheet in 2022.
This statistic, as of today, confirms that he is top of the goalkeeping tree in the Top-5 European leagues. On the back of winning the Best Goalkeeper award last season and starting off the 2022/23 season in fine form, his contribution has been significant. All of the 14 games that AC Milan have kept the back door shut during this year have, in fact, seen the number 16 take a place between the sticks.
For Magic Mike, this was his third penalty save in a Rossoneri shirt; his first this season, after ones against Real Madrid in a friendly and Liverpool in the Champions League last year. His save from Berardi wasn't only his first save this season but his first-ever in his Serie A career.
Curiously, also this season Maignan has saved the first penalty faced in an official game, crowning off a match that saw him make two great saves, six successful balls forward and nine balls recovered. Bravo Mike!
