He played four matches in March and was the MVP in three. We’re talking about Ismaël Bennacer, who has been voted as the best Rossoneri performer in the month just gone. He didn’t just score the winning goal at the Unipol Domus in Cagliari, he also produced a number of fantastic displays, including in the match against Napoli at the San Paolo and in the Coppa Italia first-leg showdown against Inter. Isma has reached really high standards and hopes to continue to do so in the team’s upcoming fixtures.
After Rafa Leão was voted the MVP for the months of January and February, it’s Bennacer’s turn to take centre stage again, with the Algerian having won the award in October. He started against Inter, Napoli, Empoli and Cagliari, providing great defensive cover and showing incredible intensity in attack in every single game. His winning goal in Cagliari was an absolute gem, a finish as stunning as it was difficult.
Against the Sardinians, Isma bagged his second Serie A goal of the season after previously netting against Bologna. Both of these came on the road, both were scored with his left foot and both were exquisite strikes.
Across Serie A, Bennacer was the player who won the most tackles (nine) and duels (28) in March. Out of all the midfielders in the Italian top flight, only Pereyra and Badelj made more recoveries than Isma (24) in the month just gone. If we narrow the field to only include AC Milan players, Bennacer was the player who completed the most passes (151) and the second-most dribbles (seven, behind Leão). Furthermore, along with Tomori, he was the Rossonero who made the most interceptions (four).
